Valentines Day Vanity Makeover
Valentines Day Vanity Makeover
I’ve never really been the flowers type of guy. They look good for a few days… then they’re gone.
So this year for Valentine’s Day, I wanted to put my skills to work and build something that would last longer than any bouquet or box of candy.
I had been meaning to upgrade Sarah’s vanity area for a while. She spends a ton of time at her desk, but it just didn’t feel inspiring. It worked… but it didn’t feel good. And if you’re going to spend hours somewhere, it should feel good.
I started the way I usually do, weeks of inspiration on Pinterest.
I narrowed it down to a few concepts and kept coming back to one thing: wood. Clean. Warm. Timeless.
I found the perfect 8x4 wood panel at Home Depot. Only problem? It definitely wasn’t fitting in my car.
So I did what any reasonable person would do, pulled out the saw and cut it down in the parking lot.

Once I got home, I cleared everything out, took my measurements, and got to work.
I mounted the panels using black drywall screws for a subtle contrast and added a pegboard so she could store her laptop and accessories without cluttering the desk.
Simple. Functional. Clean.
It came out pretty damn nice.
More importantly, she loved it.
There’s something powerful about being able to use the skills you’ve built over the years to improve the lives of the people around you. That’s really what this is all about.
Onto the next build.
